>It seems that the early church gathered on Sunday, because Paul told

Bro. Robert Brown;
This is directed at you personally , but at every one who twists this
scripture out of its biblical context in an attempt to "proof-text" our
actions today. The 3 related verses of this scripture are:
1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to
the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store,
as God hath
prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
3 And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I
send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.
NOTE CAREFULLY that the money being collected by the church was being sent
to help the church in Jerusalem which was in the midst of famine.
Furthermore, in verse two, Paul makes it clear that they are doing this
because he wants no collection taken while he is there. (Paul is still the
only minister I have known that has said this.)
Lastly this money being collected in this verse is offerings, not tithes,
as it is according to how you have prospered. In other words if you have
more to give, give more. the tithe is an accross the board requirement in
which all give an equal percentage.
So, unless you take your Sunday offering , and send it all to some other
church (my pastor would take as we are in the midst of expanding :) },
don't use 1Cor. 16 as a proof text. There is sufficient material in the
rest of scripture to prove that the tithe is God's will. Actually, since
we are His servants, all the money is His, we are just stewards. But that
is another story...
Yours in Him,
