Since you weren't around when this discussion began, I'll offer an
explanation for you, Brother. The original question came from off
the list, most likely from a Seventh-Day Adventist or other Sabbatarian,
along with this prelude from Bro Nally:
[ ...This may be a good exercise to respond to him and ]
[H-F to see what some saints say.... I've been in the Saturday/ ]
[Sabbath debate with a good 7th day Adventist friend of mine for ]
[quite some time. I know what I'd say... might take me a while to ]
[relocate the scriptures.... How would you answer him Brethren & ]
[Sistren ? ---- Bro. Tyler
A desire to witness is hardly straining at gnats, is it? If you
question the method, some contructive criticism might work a little
better than the implicit judgement you render by calling me and others
a "saint" in quotes!
I ask that you exhibit the grace to allow those on this list who like
to go beyond the elementary principles (Heb 6:1) to discuss Scripture.
MY BACKGROUND ON THIS
When we lived in Fort Worth, my wife and I frequently assisted Brother
W. Rothman, a retired UPC missionary, in his ministry at a nursing home
in Hurst Texas. We had a regular ol' church service there every Thursday
evening -- singing, prayer requests, worship, preaching. Bro Rothman
always worked in the message of salvation somewhere in his message.
One of the frequent guests of our services was an old Seventh Day Adventist
preacher. He was nice enough gentleman, even allowed himself to enjoy
some of the pentecostal worship in that nursing home. One day, the 7th
Day Adventist indirectly challenged Bro Rothman about the question of the
sabbath, in a manner similar to that presented by the originator of this
thread. The next week, Bro Rothman preached a message on the Holy Ghost
being our rest.
MY QUESTION: Was Brother Rothman, because he addressed the question of
the Sabbath, straining at gnats? I believe not! Bro & Sis Rothman are
among the kindest people I know, exhibiting true Christian Holiness and
love, being witnesses of the love of Christ, while also not compromising
the message. When I left Texas, Bro Rothman was well into his 70's, yet
he still was excited about his savior, still shouted with a voice of
triumph, still raised his hands in praise, and still ran the aisles on
occasion! \o/ I will challenge *anyone* who questions their salvation,
especially anyone who doesn't even know them!
May the Lord bless you richly in your ministry!
