Robert,
Greetings in Jesus name!! I myself went through a similiar situation about a
year ago with a seventh-day adventist preacher. One thing I found out is
that their whole religion is based on that one standard. Everything rotates
around the sabbath day. I have a whole list of verses supporting the fact
that we today are not obligated to keep the sabbath as commanded in the old
testament. I will be more than happy to post those (I have to dig them out
of my filing cabinet!!). One of the first thing I noticed while studying
this topic was that never in the new testament was the sabbath commanded to
be observed as it was in the old testment. In fact one of the first
instances we find in Matthew is where Jesus while traveling on the sabbath
stopped to pick some fruit to eat and was reminded that it was the sabbath.
Jesus replied that the sabbath was not made for man but man for the sabbath.
This is found in Matt chapter 12. One other thing that comes to mind is
Paul while writing to the Galatian church in Galatians 4:10-12 is
reprimanding (sp?) the church for observing days and months. Just a little
food for thought. I will post the other scriptures in a couple of days.
One more thing Rev David Bernard has a tract out on the Sabbath that
contains quite a bit in information. I don't agree with all that is in it
but he has a lot of worthwhile information.
God bless.
