Hi All:

I am attending grad school at La Salle University in Philadelphia.
Unfortunately, one of my courses is a religion course and believe me
this is a stretch. This prof told me last night that the Bible is not to be
taken literally in that it is not a science book, but to be taken as
a literature book. I told him that I believe the Bible as the Word
of God and I take it literally. I said, when the Bible says the Red
Sea was parted, I believe that. He says that is not true. He says
that they have learned that the Red Sea was dry in sections and that
the Israelites did not all pass through at once but that it was a
gradual process. However, he says that it is not important whether
or not the Red Sea opened as it is that God is a liberator of his
people. He says that the whole Bible is an interpretation. Where in
the Bible does it say to go to church on Sunday, yet we do. He says
that is someone's interpretation. I agree with things like that.
But the rest of what he was saying is just hog wash. I mean you
should hear these people. They believe that a "moral agnostic" could
go to heaven because he was moral. They talk about faith and works,
but then they get hung up. They talk of a God who loves us
unconditionally so then how can he punish us. But I think the most
absurd thing I heard last night was from a student who said "Since
God made everything good, then there must be something good in the
Devil." Now do these people need help or what?

This class is a stretch for me, to say the least. I do solicit your
prayers.

"Given the odds, we weren't supposed to stop being slaves. Given the
opposition, we weren't supposed to have an education. Given the history, we
weren't supposed to have families. Given the blues, we weren't supposed to
have spirit. Given the power of the enemy, we weren't supposed to fight back.
Not only have we achieved victories, we have--despite the powers against
us--become our own victories."
