LOOK WHAT CAME FLOATING IN FROM "ANONYMOUS" THIS EVENING!
Why he bothered to make it anonymous is beyond me, as he made it quite
obvious who he was. Such a threat from a foriegn country. I am
making you aware of this just to keep you abreast of the situation.
5K emails/hour at 1 KB/email = 5 MB/hr. With a 14.4 kbps link to the
net, not counting overhead that is 13.9 kbps just in hate mail.
Bandwidth ought to be able to handle it :-)
120 MB/day disk space if I only purge mail once per day -- disk ought
to be able to handle it :-)
This ought to make a good performance test of my system :-)
Good thing I upgraded to a P-120 2 weeks ago, and 32 MB RAM yesterday :-)
This email serves to notify my ISP that an attack has been threatened,
so that he can take whatever action he deems appropriate.
I am enclosing the traffic that led up to this, with the exception of
the publicly viewable postings to the higher fire mailing list:
higher-fire@prairienet.org
which has public archives at:
http://eli.wariat.org/upc/net/higher-fire/index.html
It is my belief that the following anonymous mail originated from:
Jan S Haugland <jansh@telepost.no>
who has been a regular, if not controversial, contributor to the
higher fire mailing list.
The private email, in chronological order, leading up to this threat
follows:

Subject: Jan S Haugland <jansh@telepost.no> has gone far enough!
In the light of his constant off-base position, and especially in the
light of the recent postings regarding universal salvation and the
coming of the Lord, I am requesting that you @toad him immediatly! In
case you are unfamiliar with that verb, @toad means to kick him out of
a MOO or MUSE, and hence by extrapolation, off this mailing list.
His position is obviously actually much farther out of line than Steve
Winter's, and I am sure many preachers in our ranks would not hesitate
to use the word "evil", since he is trying his hardest to place the
proverbial millstone around his neck and be cast into the sea for
leading these little ones astray.
Since Steve actually held an Apostolic intellectual position, and
really only deviated in lacking love in his approach (to say the
least!), and you removed him, then I hereby pettition you to remove
Jan without further delay, as the position he is upholding is
anti-Apostolic, and this is an Apostolic mailing list; therefore, he
does not belong here.
Nevertheless, I congratulate Jan on the excellent web page he has put
together on the Jehova's Witnesses. I have refered several people to
that URL for information on JW.
Thank You!

I wondered if the UPC was a cult. Thanks for letting me know the answer
to that question.

Can't take facts, huh, so you will silence the critic. Considering that
the group is *explicitly* for oneness pentecostals, and you have
trinitarians on the list, I wonder how salvation and eschatological views=
that are usually considered non-essential -- at least in non-cultic
christian religions -- can be further off base than that.

Do you think God is your private hit-man, that you can call over for
slaughtering those who disagree with your personal opinions?

I consider it very, very interesting that you consider disagreement over =
doctrine more important than having love. Not that I doubted it, since
what you have demonstated here is pure hatred. I suggest you go and read =
1Cor 13, if you have a Bible around.
Sometimes I wished God had a hell for the special brand of people who are=
so inclined to see other people burn -- at least for a couple of weeks.
I have often wondered how it is that even satanists fail in displaying
the pure evil that fanatical fundamentalist "christians" demonstrate
again and again, even if the satanists are supposed to *try* to be evil.
Christ must be very, very sad.
All the best,
- Jan

I am not saying your views are genericly wrong, merely that they do
not belong in the higher-fire mailing list. I would be delighted to
see those same views in a similar mailing list with a broader view,
such as one involved with the relative timing of the Lord's return
with respect to his death, burrial, and resurection.
I must admit that the thing that really got me upset was the universal
salvation interpretation you put forth. Such a view is at odds with
the beliefs of [almost?] all the other members of the list, and its
presence on that list could be construed by a visitor to represent the
views of the list members at large.
I do not feel that we [in the UPC] are a cult, but our ministerial
manual explicitly denounces the concept of "everyone will be saved",
and ministers that are members of the UPC (and not all ministers on
this list are members) are expected to agree with the doctrine in that
manual, or else not join, hence the "out of place" status of your
recent postings.
In fact, I do find your views interesting, even if I disagree with
them. You do articulate them well, and you definately make me think.
My objection was that they were out of place on that particular list.
Is there another place where you discuss these same topics? I would
like to follow them there. I suspect Mike Murphy would too. If there
is no other suitable forum for such a dscussion, I would be willing to
open a Majordomo mailing list on my machine for the purpose. How
would you feel about a list name of "rapture-when" for such a list?

Robert Jay Brown III,
Unless you withdraw your statement immediately, I will set
up a very visible Web page and publicize it as much as
possible, letting everybody know *exactly* what you wrote.
You should note that when the University of Bergen removed
my account because of false accusations from the net.JWs,
the number of protest mails reached 5000 per hour. As
you can guess, I know how to raise net.hell.
You can call me whatever you want, you can disagree and
threaten me with hell. But once some bugger tries to censor my
medium by having me removed in any way, and your pretty
request to "@toad" me was just that, I swear I will get you
off the net faster than you can spell breakdown. That's a
nasty, low blow that I never, never will take from some
self-proclaimed god.
You are warned, sucker. The JW at Bergen University
called my message an "idle threat." That is very likely
to become the famous last word.
PS: My sysop hates cults. Complains to him is very likely
to get you in trouble with *yours*.

So that's the story. To Arthur and all the great folks at Xnet, and
to Zbig and all the great folks at APK, if there is any appropriete
action that you should take, I will be willing to help in any way I
can.
To the higher-fire list, I decided to let you in on what was going on
here. Pray for Jan, as he is decieved, both in his theology and in
his belief that he has an irrevokable right to impose his thoughts
upon the members of a private email list. If higher-fire were a
newsgroup, he would be correct, but then I never would have made the
request in the first place.
