YHVH

I am not sure where "Yahweh" comes from, since "Yah-Veh" seems more
accurate. I have just started to study Barron's _Mastering Hebrew_ which is
the book and audio cassette course taken by U.S. Diplomats to Eretz Israel.
Although it is not quite like Biblical Hebrew, it is Hebrew indeed and after
a solid year of regular study I hope to be able to read the Tanakh in
Hebrew, or, at the very least, impress the simple minded.

I am having difficulty writing the calligraphic Hebrew alphabet very well,
but my main goal now is simply to learn to decipher the characters and
pronounce words. My goal for 1996 is "basic Hebrew" and God willing, in 1997
"basic Greek".

An interesting note pointed out to me by Archaelogist Dr.James Fennelly of
Adelphi University (who speaks 6 Ancient Near Eastern languages fluently):

When you take the Hebrew letters of God's name, YHVH, and spell them
vertically instead of from right to left which is the normal way, (in a roll
like fashion instead of yaw), the characters roughly sketch out the form of
a human being. Many students of Q'abalah thought this to Yah Veh would
appear on earth in human form. (Just a note for the Monarchial Modalists out
there!)

This was a very poor attempt at showing the rough idea. Yud is on top, then
Hey, then Vav, then Hey again. Yud is the head, Hey is the arms and legs,
and Vav is the torso between the arms and legs. Y-H-V-H just like that.

The very way the characters tumble downwards, from the "head" or Yud,
instead of sideways, represents the condesention and humility of God in
coming to the earth to redeem his lost people. (Well, maybe). Like the angel
in _Revelation_, his head is in the sky and his feet were on the ground, in
a figurative sense, bridging the gap between heaven and earth.

So Yeshua the head is in the sky, or heaven, and the rest of body, the
church, is located on the earth. Yah Veh is a head (Holy Spirit) and the
body (Flesh, the Church). In other words, the marriage, or union, of God and
man in one body. The body of Yeshua Messiah! As Brandon Parker would say,
Baruch Hashem Adonai! Paulus said, "Your life is hidden WITH God IN Christ."

P.S. --> Richard, could you post this on the usenet Bible Study group for me?
I'm stuck here in UUCP land for a while... *sigh*
