I agree about traditions from Dale Carnegie, but requests from your
pastor are a different matter. I trust you have found yourself a
church where the pastor does not condemn you for your beard. I went
from drugs to God in a UPC church, but no one ever said a thing about
my mustache. I even married a wonderful Pentecostal woman who was
raised in the Church all her life while I had that mustache. After we
had been married almost a year, I got aggravated at it because I had
to trim it so often. (The reason I grew the thing in the first place
was because I hated to shave.) So I cut it off. My wife cried! I
did not look like the man she had married. She got over it in less
than an hour, and I have looked even *MORE* Pentecostal since then.

I was fortunate to start out in a church with a pastor who understood
that holiness is more than dress. I do, however, feel that if you
have decided that a particular church is where you should be, and the
pastor wants all the men to wear fluorescent orange socks, then you
should wear them!
