DLE error

I use a ZyXEL 1496 ( U1496EG V T408a P) and have a similar problem, if 
I use on the Windows client Times or other truetype fonts instead of
Courier (Sending is done over the ESEM FAX client to faxd and then to 
sendfax).

With Times and T-FAX 307 as receiver on the other side of the line 
I got:

12/31 18:05:55 yS1  page complete, 29612 bytes sent
12/31 18:05:55 yS1  sending DLE '.'       
12/31 18:06:10 yS1  got response: 'ERROR'           

with Courier as font for the document:

12/31 18:07:26 yS1  page complete, 14262 bytes sent       
12/31 18:07:26 yS1  sending DLE '.'       
12/31 18:07:47 yS1  connection hangup: '+FHS:00' 

any clues? System ist DEBIAN/Linux 2.0 (glibc) and mgetty 1.1.14
