You're *very* unreasonable, by expecting that something you paid money for
is then supposed to work.

Humour aside, I think you should return that modem, and tell them why
("the modem doesn't work, and something that doesn't work with Linux isn't
something that I want anyway").

Is this an external or internal modem?  If it's external, all this "plug
and play" talk is nonsense anyway - there are no external P&P issues.
