There is a chain of stores in the US called Best Buy. They sell a house =
brand of modems under the
name of Atlas. The modem appears to be mfd by NewCom.
I purchased a 56K PnP model with voice capability and have had numerous =
problems. NewCom Tech
support refuses to help because=20
>We do not support Linux and the fact that you are able to get that modem
>to work in Linux at all is suprising as that modem is a Plug and Play
>only modem
>Our IFXC modems are Linux compatible, that one is not. Unless you are =
using
>drivers specific to that modem for Linux I cannot guarantee that it will
>work correctly if at all. We do not provide drivers for that modem for =
use
>in Linux. Linux is not a "true" plug and play operating system. It uses
>drivers to configure PnP devices and unless those drivers are specific =
to
>the device that they are trying to configure it very likely give you =
mixed
>results.
I explained that I am getting flawless 33.6 connects on my ISPs 33.6 =
number, and v90 connects
generally occur at 44-48K, but the v90 connects generally drop after 30 =
seconds.
vgetty's beep causes the modem to freeze so solid that a power cycle is =
required.
The modem refuses to accept a fax at greater than 2400bps, and refuses to=
accept fine mode.
AT&W0 does not save ATL0M0.
AT/ invariably responds with ERROR.
NewCom insists that this is all a plug and play issue. Am I being =
unreasonable? I should think
that the fact that I can get this device to operate as a fairly reliable =
v.34 data modem indicates
that I am using isapnp correctly?
