Now let's look at this, step by step, which is what the log is for.

Modem initialization done.  If you haven't *saved* the AT#CID=1 setting
to NVRAM, it isn't set here, and thus CID delivery might be "off".

So it's definitely a good idea to set AT#CID=1 in the modem
initialization.

Everything that the modem delivers to the host is logged here.  No caller
ID is delivered, and thus mgetty doesn't know about any...

... and denies the call.

(Well, actually, I could have solved this without looking at the log file.
Russell is right, with the job comes a certain kind of telepathic ability.
But then, I think it is a good idea to teach people how to look at the log
files and interpret them.  It isn't that hard.  Which is, btw, the reason
why I put "mgetty@muc.de" back onto the CC:).
