vgetty does not play message

Hi,

my problem is that vgetty does not play my greeting message. Recording
works fine.

I'm using an ELSA MicroLink 28.8TQV modem together with the mgetty
package included in SuSE 5.3. Could anybody please explain how to
convert .au files to .rmd (autopvf, pvftormd, which options, sample
rate, sample format)?

In the vgetty logfile there are no warnings nor errors (only something
like "playing message file ...").
