newer version of g3??pbm:
g32pbm <file> | pnmscale 0.5 |ppmtogif > fax.gif

newer version of g3??pbm:
g3topbm <file> | pnmscale 0.5 |ppmtogif > fax.gif

... but extremely slow.

fax2tiff -M -1 -o out.tif g3file
try the switch -1 or -4 (see mangage)
... but not useable, it resizes the fax to about
1700something x 2000something.
Much too big. I tried all other parameters. And a bug: fax2tiff
Always/mostly leaves a file names fax.gif in the target directory.
Seems like a tmpfile during conversion, but forgotten to
be deleted.

Windows: wangimg.exe

So I also search for another Prg to convert g3 to <any_standart_format>.
Any hints ?

PBMtools are too slow:
486/66 32MB needs 3 hours (!) to handle 8 instances of this command:
g32pbm <file> | pnmscale 0.5 |ppmtogif > fax.gif

Swapfile raises from 0 to 50-60 MB during process.

more and more offtopic :-) : Paintshop *can* read p?m- file. You
could spare one step of conversion.
