detecting DSR on a ultra 1

Hi,

I've installed mgetty on a Ultra 5 running 2.5.1 and it works
great but when i try it on a Ultra 1 or Sparcstation 5 i get
a error in the /var/log saying that it can't find DSR "bad cable
or modem?"   What does this mean?  Both my ultra 5 and Ultra 1
are using the same modem and os but i can't get it to work.

I would like to use my ultra 1 instead because i am going to
install a multiport serial SBUS card.

HELP!
