Problem with detecting DTMF tone

Hi,

   I am using vgetty. There is a  problem, my modem can detect some of dtmf
tone comes from
different fax machine or phone, it will lose some or all of them. I don't
know why, I checked the difference of  the dtmf tones, it seems my modem can
not report the short dtmf tones, if the tones can keep for a long time, it
works ( I just test some of the fax machines, I am  not sure that is the
real reason). I have read the configaration file of vgetty, I think I should
change
the dtmf setting, but it says only support zyxel modem, and after change
it, the problem remains. Can anybody tell me how to let it work?
