Ok, thank you! I will try it as soon as I can (and I will scold Jens who
soldered the cable :-).

Hm. The comments in login.config are a bit misleading:
# Format:
#       username userid utmp_entry login_program [arguments]
#
# Meaning:
#       for a "username" entered at mgettys login: prompt, call
#       "login_program" with [arguments], with the uid set to "userid",
                                                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
imho is 'uid' a number not a name on UNIX(tm).

But U R right: I didn't noticed that:
# userid is a valid user name from /etc/passwd, or "-" to not set
#  a login user id and keep the uid/euid root (needed for /bin/login)

suggestion: maybe the comment could be changed to:
# Format:
#       username_mgetty username_system login_program [arguments]
...
