Interesting indeed.  Sometimes the modem does echo the ATI command,
sometimes it doesn't.  This has come up earlier, the USRs seem to have
real problems with (or "without") command echo.

Marc, we really have to make vgetty immune to this.  Something along the
lines of "if we're waiting for something, and receive a line starting with
AT..., ignore it, if it's the same AT command that we sent to the modem,
barf, if something else".
