The null modem cable isn't wired properly, that is, DTR on one end should
be wired to DSR and DCD on the other - you don't have a carrier signal,
and so "login" blocks.  Unless you can't fix the cable, work around by
"ignore-carrier yes" in mgetty.config.

This means something in login.config is "weird" - like a uid 500 given,
instead of a user *name*.
