usr sporster pro not always properly detected

I was able to catch another proper detection so now I have a good detection
and a failure with debug at highest level.

After the successful detection I did try calling and was connected. My greeting
was played, I was given a beep. I then left my test message which was
properly captured by vgetty/vm. Vgetty then went back into it's initialization
cycle and resumed it's inability to detect the voice modem. If I could get
vgetty to accurately detect I would probably be in business.
