This is the problem - the 3com/USRs are quite good for *sending* faxes,
amazing for sending and receiving data calls, but not-so-good for fax
reception - sometimes they just goof up, and there doesn't seem to be
anything mgetty can do about it :-(

You should be able to get a ZyXEL 1496E, or maybe one of the newer ones
(2864).  Dunno about the ELSAs.

My personal long-time favourite for *perfect* fax reception is the ZyXEL
1496E - downside is that data is slow (only up to 14.4).
