Sendfax not sending

Something is massively broken here.  Try a different modem, or a different
serial port/serial cable, or a different computer.

One command is echoed twice, and the second command is garbled - either
your modem can't do fax, and the fax command causes it to misbehave, or
your serial port/cable is broken.
