mgetty without modem :-)

    Hallo,

I want to use mgetty on a serial line used as serial
console for a Linux/SMP Server. We had several hard lockups and never
anything in the syslog. So i would like mgetty to simply

- initialize the line (9600, 8, n etc..)
- log any output to a logfile
- do nothing if a lockfile exists (minicom for maintenance)

but of course _not_ to give a login or such things. (difference
to direct keyword in mgetty config)

So my question is: Can i get this with some funny configuration, do you know
a better tool for the job? Or should i simply comment out all modem
checking/handling from the mgetty sources?

  Thanks for any help

     Dietmar
