And you use use pppd for dialing into your machine? pppd should recognize
the data you call garbage.
I think you need a chat-file like this one
ABORT BUSY ABORT 'NO CARRIER' "" ATZ OK ATDmynumber ogin: ppp assword: mypass
and you call pppd connect chat-file
