I was thinking of putting this in vgetty, not mgetty. Any voice modem can
pick up the line and just listen - no tones sent.

Shared phone lines may not be what mgetty was made for, but it seems to me
that it is ideal for vgetty. I have a small consulting business that runs
off a single phone line.

True. I'd be willing to write a patch, but if things are going in for a
rewrite in that area anyways, it might not be the best time.
