I really have to say that vgetty is working _great_ for me
(modulo this little AutoPPP-thing).

I have been receiving faxes every once in a while for quite some time now
with my modem quite satisfactorily
(Creatix LC 144 VF, Firmware V1.5 (V1.500-DS29F), Rockwell chipset;
this isn't even the newest but I can't burn EPROMs.
I know it's old, only 14400bps, but it has fax class 2 and _works_).
Since some releases of mgetty I can even receive faxes sent by modems
where this failed before.

Sending works well, too. I can even do fax polling with sendfax!
Didn't try being a 'fax poll server'.

The voice part has improved a _lot_  since the early pre-1.0 versions,
it has become really good for me since (I think 0.8.1 / 25Mar98 or the
one before that). The sound quality is really nice now (albeit a bit low)
and the distinction between voice/fax/data has never failed so far.
Even DTMF tones are recognised correctly, although I didn't play around
much with them.

Wow! This is a great set of programs!

I thank Gert and Marc very much, as well as all others who have
contributed work for it.

I am also grateful for the support in this newsgroup. It really astonishes
me how much time Gert invests and how much patience he shows with the
'problemme's some people have ;-) (this is not a general pun)
