fax/modem and voice on one telephoneline

This all has a need for a keybaord being handy if a call comes in.
I am using DTMF # to stop the Answering machine if its a voicecall I
want to get .. and DTMF 9 to activate DATA mode if the calling modems 
does not want to wait for the silence detection to stop the voicerecording

This makes life a bit easier but having a Modem and Voice on the same line
is quite annoying if datacalls are getting more dense.
