zplay delay

using zplay with the following options:

-b '[933,0,12]' -C -r $record_file

Problem: the delay between the beep and the start of the recording
as about .75 seconds which means the person leaving a message
gets the first part of the message cut-off. I have reduced
the FAX_COMMAND_DELAY to 5 ms in hopes this would help, but
it does not (although it does speed up normal handling of the
modem).

Any suggestions?
