Flow control woes resolved

Greetings,

I am writing to complete the process of figuring out the flow control
problems that I was having.  The problem appeared to be on one machine,
the one upon which I was installing mgetty.  The actual problem was on the
connecting machine.  This machine is a Compaq Deskpro.  After determining
that the Compaq had the UART problem, I talked to one of the sysadmins at
work who said that the Compaqs are known to have problems such as these.
Therefore, it was the Compaq's fault, no software or modem.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions and help.  I'm actually making
progress now!
