User authentication and mgetty

I am hoping that someone has some idea on how to authenticate users using a
"watchword" calculator on linux.

What I want to be able to do is supply my remote users with an access code
generator such as the Racal Watchword and have my linux box authenticate
their login using the code generated by the "watchword".

I have looked at some documentation about radius, but I get the impression
that you need and external server to do the authentication for you.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this type of setup?

Or maybe is their a radius authentication utlity for linux? And if so how
does it interact with mgetty?

Any help would be appreciated.
