Question on mgetty usage

Hello everyone. I have a question pertaining to the usage of mgetty. I
have read the manual and config files and installed the software on my
machine. That having been said and done,  on a machine with one 56k,
voice, fax, data modem (not winmodem), is it possible to use mgetty as a
voice/answering machine and also use the SAME modem to connect to the
internet, without having to shutdown mgetty?

Aka, computer stays on as an answering machine during the day, and on
the internet when I'm home from work, without having to mess with bunch
o shell scripts.
