Inmarsat Telephon+Modem System

Hi, 
I'm new in this list. I have read your instructions and suggestions to minimized the
traffic. The archive search get 0 messages.

My friend has an sailboat with an INMARSET communication system.
Capsat Maritime Telephon TT-3064A from Thrane&Thrane Denmark
bought in Germany by ELNA in Rellingen.
With this phone you can do voice calls, data calls and recieve data calls.
He used an Intel PC with Suse Linux 2.0.30. Sorry, i don't have the mgetty version
now.
He will make an data connection to an another Linux system in Germany.
The problem is, if he start minicom he get the message /dev/modem is locked.
We have checked the system with an normal modem - it was OK.

Have you some experience or information about the connection with similar 
INMARSAT systems?
What can I do, to locate the problem? The technical support from ELNA has no
experience with Linux. I can call my friend if he stay on the boat, the boat is 
not in Cologne.
