Multitech modems and sendfax failures

Hmmm. This is not good, and should NEVER happen.  The timeout is set to go
off if the modem sends less than 1024 bytes in 60 seconds, which is
*plenty* of room even for a 2400 bps reception, which this wasn't.

Does the fax page itself look ok?  If yes, then it looks as if the modem
has a firmware bug recognizing the end-of-page signal upon reception.

I'd ask Multitech whether there is a firmware update available, and if
yes, try that.  If not, ask their technicians what they think about this
(show them my e-mail). 

If they won't cooperate, return the modem, and get an USR Courier -- they
work, and their tech support is quite helpful.
