Very bad idea.  This leads invariably to *wrong* settings for many
systems.

(Autoconf cannot *know* where the files are, so you have to go by "it
smells like Linux", which Autoconf isn't really meant to do -- usually it
doesn't go by operating system type, but by really checking for certain
things, like header files, function prototypes, etc., which you can't do
in the case of lock files)
