If you only have three corrupt lines, that could mean "noise on the
phone line" -- remember, fax is half duplex and has near to no error
control.

OTOH, if those are the lines where the problem occurs, it could be
something weird, like a receiver overrun.

What port speed is this modem running at?  Should bei 38400.
