Correct, but not relevant here -- the modem is queried "who are you?" and
responds with "288" (for example, the ZyXEL 1496 responds to that query
with "1496").  For a number of modem, that response is unique enough to
use it to identify the modem with out doubt - for others, I just don't
have enough data.
