FCLASS

I've looked at the sample log files "mgetty, incoming data call" and
"mgetty, incoming fax call" and it appears that the modem is set to
receive a fax or data call prior to receiving the call. How does this
fit into determining after the call is received whether it's a fax or
data
call and taking the appropriate action?
In the sample log file "mgetty, incoming fax call" it doesn't show
FCLASS being set. Was this previously set? Can this be set and
left on all the time regardless whether or not the call is fax or data?
In the sample log file "mgetty, incoming data call" FCLASS is set
to 0. What happens if the call were a fax and not data?
In the file "How mgetty works" it explains that if an
incoming call is a fax, it is saved, and if the call is data the login
program
handles it. Was FCLASS set before the call was received?

Thanks
