Converting program for mgetty faxes

	I used a script as below:

#!/bin/bash

g32pbm $1 >/tmp/newfax.pbm
pnmtotiff /tmp/newfax.pbm >$1.tif

is there anything to prepend a proper TIFF header to the raw g3 file
without having to process it  through the above pipe ?

and I wouldn't be surprised that some TIF readers under Windows only
accept a very limited choice of formats (TIFF being able to use a
number of different formats, compression methods etc.)
