I can't log in using Autoppp

I guess this is a simple problem but so am I, I have just installed mgetty.
I have configured autoppp (I think). However, when I try to login the linux
system disconnects. Logging the following to its log file:

07/01 17:34:23 ##### data dev=ttyR8, pid=14763, caller=none, conn='115200',
name='', cmd='/usr/sbin/pppd', user='/AutoPPP/'

However If I log on manually it works Ok, giving the following in its log
file:

07/01 17:48:53 ##### data dev=ttyR8, pid=15120, caller=none, conn='115200',
name='', cmd='/bin/login', user='test1

Any idea's
