CLASS 2 MODEM SCAM

Hi,

I wish to bring to everyone's notice a "scam" like situation with modem
manufacturer's
claiming to sell Class 2 modems, (cheap), but don't ! Especially here in
India, we have

GVC
D-Link
HK Robotics
A Generic Rockwell

and a few more ..

who blatantly claim that their modems are cheap, the documentation as
well as their packing
says its EIA CLASS 2, but check the AT+FCLASS=? and 2 is missing ! I
thought it may be
a bug in implementing the FCLASS command, so i tried CLASS 2 command
sets, but that
did not work either, so obviously these are cheap Rockwell
implementations supporting
only Class 1.

That brings up the question : Is a Class 2 Rockwell chipset so
expensive, that a cheap
modem cannot be made that offers Class 2, especially since it offers
coice?
