Well, it's just a hint for people unwilling to read and experiment...

If "switchbd" is wrong, it should never work. So it has to be set up
correctly.

Well, buy a cheap modem, get a cheap modem...

What I'd do is
* increase the log level (-x6) to see whether anything is received at
all here (which gives hints about wrong baud rate)
* play with switchbd. Maybe it helps.
