Might be possible - one need to know more details (what kind of modem,
which software, what does he see...)

This is pretty good - V.everythings work nicely, but only with recent
firmware.  "5607" should be OK.

Huh.  This is weird.    I am pretty used to +FHS:50, 52 or 54, but 02
hints at serious problems.

What firmware version does your modem use (ATI7)? If possible, please
upgrade to the last firmware version available from USR/3com.

How exactly did you generate the G3 images (program names and versions)?
Could you run some tests with a reference G3 image, found on 
ftp://alpha.greenie.net/pub/mgetty/g3-files/t22.g3?
