Help with vgetty and US Robotics needed please

 I have installed vgetty, and recorded my greeting message for the US
Robotics modem.
I  can play it through the sound card using vm play
I have also tried both compression levels (1 and 4)

The problem is though, when I phone my modem, it picks up, and I hear a
beep and it starts recording the message
if I hangup then whatever i said was recorded
the greeting message was not said though

Any help grealty appreciated,
