Bizarre problem with Multiech/fax reception

Hi,

anyone having seen the files received by a Multitech fax modem and
mgetty be not g3 (file reports fli ...). As I understand mgetty,
the fax data comes from the modem unchanged. So if the modem doesn't
send g3 data, well, the resulting file is not g3 data. If this
assumption is right, then it's probably either a firmware problem
or a special mode/setting in the modem (the modem was used with
MS-* software before).  AT&F doesn't give anything, however.

If yes, I will tell the guy to browse the manual :)
