mgetty with multiple modems

If I understand you correctly, after the installation of one *new* modem,
one of the *existing* modems stopped working?
This hints at hardware compatibility problems - internal modems are bad
karma anyway.
In theory, mgetty should be able to work with many different modems
connected to the same machine without any interference between different
lines at all - on my SCO Unix system here, I have three different ZyXEL
modems and an USR Courier, and it works without problems. But all of
those modems are external models.

On a customer system, I have 8 USR Couriers (external V.everything and
I-Modem), connected to an IBM AIX system. No problems.
