mgetty with multiple modems

I had been using mgetty for several months with no problems, however I
have done something recently that is causing problems. Perhaps someone
out there has knows if I am doing something wrong.

I have been using and external USR v.everything modem for some time with
no problems. Last week, I installed an internal 3COM 56K v.90 modem. I
wanted to use both modems to answer AutoPPP requests, as well as fax
requests, using the same mgetty executable.

Is this a problem with different modems, as in this case? The other
problem now, is that the Courier, which has been reliable in the past
will not pick up an incoming fax. It locks the port, hangs up, keeps
the lock in place for a couple of minutes and then removes the lock. If
this should theoretically work, in order to allow multiple PPP or fax
and PPP connections consecutively into the same Linux box, then I will
upload the log file, however, at this point, I don't even know if this
is supposed to work.

If anyone has experiences with multiple modems and mgetty on one system
, I'd love to hear your experiences.

Regards,
Ruben
