Use a terminal program and make sure you are getting the correct result
codes.
I have a USR V.90 56k internal PnP voice/fax modem (product #5685) and the
distinctive ring on that product is broken in a big way. The ring-length
detection microcode was probably lifted from a modem with slower LSI
circuitry, as it reaches the ring-length thresholds too early and
consistently reports short rings as medium rings and reports medium rings
as long rings. As a result, a ring of type C (two short and one medium)
gets reported as two mediums and a long, so the result code sent to the
computer is RING B RING A. An incoming call on line B (two medium rings)
is reported as two long rings, or RING A RING A.
I've sent several emails to 3Com support, but all I ever get are canned
responses telling me to check my installation.
