FWIW I have the same model (the only difference is "Spain external" instead of "Netherland External", but the firmware version is the same) and there's a bug in its firmware (while recording it can erroneously recognize a dial tone when someone is speaking).
I'm still using mgetty-1.1.14 and it's working fine, but I had to patch it for this firmware problem (to ignore DLE d and DLE i while recording) and for a bug in the timeout code while using GSM compression.
I discussed both of these "fixes" with Marc Eberhard (the timeout bug - he still was in charge of vgetty at the time) and Gert (the sportster firmware problem) but I don't know if these problems were taken care of after 1.1.14
