Interesting: what kind of modem is this? Could you send me the output
of all the commands ATI, ATI1, ATI2, ATI3, ..., ATI9?

Ah, I see. Some US Robotics variant that my detection code (I maintain
mgetty, and the voice stuff is not yet merged in that part) doesn't yet
detect.

Hmmm. This is more of a vgetty problem, so I am not the right one to ask
this question anyway. I'd say, play with the sample rates (compare to
the modem manual) until you find something that works. 9600 could be a
good start.
