known problems - ZyXel 1496E V6.17?

Hummm, I don't know any, but then, I didn't know that 6.17 was out on the
market either. Do you have release notes for 6.17?

The "E" models need 120ns, the "E+" need 100ns Eproms. It *might* work
with 150's, but they are error-prone.
