Don't take it personally...

Thanks....

I didn't take it personally, I tell people around here about the same thing so I deserved it. While I was waiting on the posting to the list, I contacted multi-tech support and found a command to put the modem in auto tone detect mode (AT+FAA=1). I set this in my modem init-string and sure enough it worked!!! So now I am on track again till the next thing that I can't answer.

Thanks very much.

Hi, just so you know, Gert is not personally attacking you, he does this
to everyone the first time you don't provide all the data he needs to
help you out. (I know, it happened to a lot of us). Just try to ignore
it, and send the configuration file and log file data. I believe that
he had a 'what to do before reporting a problem' document, but I haven't
loaded any new versions of mgetty since 0.98 on an earlier version of
Linux, so I don't know what he recommends.

I have successfully set up mgetty to handle logins/AutoPPP. Now I would also like to be able to receive faxes on the same lines. My modems are MultiTech MT2834BR rackmount modems. After reading all of the man/info pages I am still unable to get the modem to recognize a fax carrier.
